Internet entrepreneurs will need to develop a whole new set of marketing skills that have been fine-tuned by those experienced with Internet fads and evolution. Many basic offline marketing principles are valid in online marketing including; creating effective promotion plans, publish public relations documents and interacting with your customers.

Other techniques however are unique to online marketing and will not be familiar to new Internet entrepreneurs. New comers will need to learn how to increase their page ranking in search engines. They will also need to develop a professional site that is both easy to use and aesthetically appealing to their target audience.

It will also be important for Internet entrepreneurs to use email marketing by creating email lists for their potential clients and to get more information on their business. Press releases should be created and circulated to local papers as well as Internet news outlets and bloggers who blog about an industry related to the company.

Promotions can also be launched and advertised on your web site in the form on contests and give-aways. A popular online clothing company has a one day per year sale where sweaters and tee shirts are offered as low as two dollars. This began as a promotion to increase the ‘buzz’ about their site, links to their site and eventually increase traffic to their site.
